The presence of pain does not mean the absence of God.
It is safe to say that many, if not all, of us have experienced a time of feeling helpless…whether it was waiting for a God-sized prayer request to be answered, desperately wanting to fix something for someone we care about, or some other nuance of life. We have experienced something BIGGER THAN US!
Dear Reader,
It is an honor and a privilege to write to you and to write to you from a place of excruciating physical pain, for in my weakness, God’s strength is made PERFECT! (2nd Corinthians 12:9)
Thank you, Readers, for being here Looking for God and discovering the many ways HE is present and the many places HE can be found. Many of you already know that this blog site is branded Looking for God #HEISEVERYWHERE because HE IS! We just have to open our eyes, our spiritual eyes, to see that God is everywhere, cares for us, and answers prayers, even if we don’t get what we want.
God Almighty is sovereign. HE is in full control, does what HE wants and is always good and holy. HE does not have to explain HIMSELF or HIS plan.
Maybe that’s where many of us, if we are not securely rooted in good soil (Parable of the Sower- Matthew 13:1-23 and in some other Gospel Books), start to doubt and distance ourselves from God. God does not leave us. We leave HIM…and sometimes over the pettiest of things when we reflect and are honest with ourselves.
Our uncertainty about the future can cause us anxiety if we choose fear over faith, Satan’s lies over God’s Truth.
Be careful not to be fueled by a false need to control circumstances and outcomes. Why do I say false need? I say false need because this is the lie we have believed. We have told ourselves at some point, “I need this to..”
One example of a false need would be telling ourselves that we have to reconnect to that toxic person we left because we need to hear and understand why he/she treated us the way he/she did. That’s not a need. That’s a want because anything said to justify the unjustifiable is an excuse, at best, and is not the healing we truly seek and need.
We MUST learn to lean and depend on God Almighty for EVERYTHING through Christ Jesus, even the things we think we have under control. Now, do not be fooled by the devil or legalism. I am NOT talking about praying over whether you should put mustard versus ketchup on your sandwich. Don’t let Satan drag you down that insane rabbit hole.
PURIFY yourselves with sincere humility, repentance, and surrender before GOD. Tell HIM all of your business, not a friend, family member, coworker, or social media! Tell HIM not because HE doesn’t know but because HE already knows, understands, and STILL loves us, and this communication strengthens the relationship! Religion has become a wicked thing in many cases because it has been perverted with human and demonic agenda. Scriptures warns us to not lean on our own knowledge, understanding, and way. (Proverbs 3:5-6, Proverbs 16:1-3, John 14:6)
This leads me to address some of the things we lean on for a false sense of comfort when we are at our most vulnerable, our most vulnerable being hungry, tired, sleepy, rushing, lonely, heartbroken, angry, sick, in physical pain, or confused. It is at these times when we could be caught with our guard down and choose what is outside of God’s will for our lives. Remember, Beloved, just because we CAN does not mean we SHOULD! There are ALWAYS CONSEQUENCES, and we do not belong to ourselves! Read 1st Corinthians 10:23 and 1st Corinthians 6:19-20.
Some of the common things to Man that we run to are sex, comfort foods, music that addresses a mood, feeling, or vibe but not the TRUTH of GOD, and the wrong crowd.
Sex- 2nd Corinthians 12:21; Ephesians 5:3; Ephesians 5:33; Galatians 5:19; Genesis 2:24; Hebrews 13:4; 1st Corinthians 6:9; 1st Corinthians 6:18, and 1st John 1:9
Comfort foods- This is more about a warning to not overeat/be overindulgent, gluttonous, or eat anything that you know is harmful to your body. Proverbs 23:20-21; 1st Corinthians 3:16-17; Proverbs 25:16; 1st Corinthians 10:31; Philippians 3:18-19; and Romans 13:14.
Music- This is more about its use to brainwash, hypnotize, and control with Satan’s lies, putting you under the spell of witchcraft so that you’ll lose the way. This goes for all sorts of ungodly entertainment (not all entertainment – ungodly entertainment), especially those trending demonic games that invite in demons. Yes, demons are real. They are the fallen angels. Be careful to watch your children. Not every child is reared in a God-fearing home. So many times, it is other children who introduce ungodly things at school, daycares, sleepovers, and even at other youth gatherings, including so-called Christian gatherings. Not everyone who says they identify as Christian is a follower of the Lord Jesus the Christ.
Here are red flags: Entertainment that promotes cold-heartedness, unforgiveness, promiscuity, using sex as a tool to control someone’s mood or behavior, sex as a method of comfort, giving control of your mind and body over to an entity that is not the Holy Spirit of God, murder, stealing, making money your god, becoming heartless as a false sense of protection due to heartbreak and rejection; you being your own god/goddess; worshipping false idols; child sacrifice; drinking blood; immortality; idolizing the concept of never aging “forever young” mindset, psychic readings, tarot cards, calling demons or the dead, etc. The list goes on and on. Satan is crafty, and the snare/trap is often subtle and embedded. Remember, the most convincing lie includes an element of truth. Just because A may equal C and B may equal C does not automatically mean that A equals B. And a smiling, friendly pumpkin (jack-o’-lantern) is no less demonic than a mischievous, evil-looking one. They who have ears, let them hear. They who have eyes, let them see (Matthew 13:9-17)! 1st Chronicles 10:13; 1st Samuel 15:23; 2nd Chronicles 33:6; Leviticus 19:31; 20:6; 20:27; Revelation 18:23; 21:8; and Galatians 5:19-20.
Wrong crowd- It is important to note that the wrong crowd is identified by the SPIRIT just as the right associations are! 1st John 4:1; 1st Corinthians 15:33; Proverbs 13:20; Proverbs 22:24-25; Proverbs 12:26; Psalm 1:1; Matthew 7:13-14; Proverbs 4:14-15; 2nd Timothy 2:22; James 1:5; Philippians 4:8; Romans 12:2; Galatians 5:7-9; Proverbs 14:7; 2nd Peter 2:20; and Proverbs 26:11.
Connection to the right people is important. Companionship is not bad; it is what spirit we associate with that makes or breaks us. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10; Hebrews 10:24-25; Proverbs 17:17; Proverbs 27:17; and John 15:12.
As you read the Holy Bible scriptures, read what comes before it and after it for context and ask the Holy Spirit of God for understanding.
Feeling helpless can sometimes lead to desperation, leaving us grasping for straws when a floatation device would be more adequate, reaching for a toxic ex when healing time with the Lord and moving in a forward and upward direction is best, or seeking entertainment in fortune-telling shops when the LORD GOD has already shown us that He is the Way, the Life, and the Truth and told us what will be if we do right or wrong…if we do not have a made-up mind that we are following Christ at all costs.
So, in times of feeling helpness, remember that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit- HE is our ever-present, all-knowing, and all-powerful help. HE is not some distant, out-of-reach deity. HE is all and well and wants a relationship with us. HE loves us so much. HE loves us so much that HE sent is only begotten son- Christ Jesus, the Messiah- to die for our sins so that whoever believes in Christ would not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
Helpless? Not at all. God knows best. Just because our idea of help may not always match God’s help that HE gives does not mean that God isn’t helping. I am so grateful that our Heavenly Father does not just treat the symptoms but gets to the root cause for the cure! Be patient with God, Our Father, while HE adresses the root. Be thankful for the cure, not just the bandaid. God knows best. Don’t try to play God with your life. John 12:25
One final thing, Beloved. Beware of those who attempt to change God’s Word to suit their agenda and justify their sin against God and themselves.

In the pain I have been feeling while writing this, God has been here with me the whole time. Last night was one of the worst nights of my life as far as physical pain. I thought the cause was one thing, so I prayed and prayed. The resolution that I expected did not come because what I thought was the problem was not the problem or root cause. Once God revealed to me what the cause was, HE gave me the strength to get what I needed for the cure. This is an example of our idea of help versus God’s help. I am so grateful for HIS wisdom! Not that I know what to do, it is only a matter of time before all the pain is gone. Until then, God’s grace and mercy are MORE than enough!
My prayer for you, Dear Reader, is that you have learned from this post something that will draw you closer to God, Our Heavenly Father, through Christ Jesus and encourage and strengthen you to throw off every weight and the sin that so easy entangles and run this race that Christ has marked for us with perseverance (Hebrews 12:1-3)… especially…in Feeling Helpless.
Enjoy this worship song called Gratitude by Brandon Lake. It still brings tears to my eyes. Be sure to tell YouTube in the comments what brought you to that song so that others may be encouraged in their time of feeling helpless.
