…In Trusting Him

In Freedom In Christ Ministries, we have a bookmark called The 20 Cans of Success. #4 says, “Why should I lack faith to allow Christ to live his life through me, when God has given me a measure of faith?” Romans 12:3 When we read it daily at home between classes, we are to insert our name so that it reads like this “Why should I, [insert your name here], lack faith to allow Christ to live his life through me, when God has given me a measure of faith?”

Dear Reader,

As you know, this blog site is branded Looking for God #HEISEVERYWHERE, so allow me to share with you how I found God…in trusting Him.

#4 is really something, huh? You know, I think where some people struggle with this is not so much that they don’t have faith but in what their faith is…that is the object of their faith.

Let me explain. When I first read #4 and really paid attention to what I was reading, I had an “I believe! Help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24) moment. Yes, God can do all things. I believe that. Is anything too hard for God? No. …At “Why should I lack faith,” my faith was in God because I was looking at Him apart from myself. However, when I looked at the part that called me to action, called me to ALLOW, that’s when I pulled back. The reason I pulled back was because I realized that Jesus wanted to live and interact with people through me! (Pause to freak out)

Thoughts in my mind told me “I’m not good enough,” “Jesus is good, but I am not,” “I’ll fall short and mess it up.” Would it be farfetched to consider this pridefulness? It was pride because to disobey God’s call on my life because my thoughts said I’m not good enough would be saying that my standard of measurement is greater or better than God’s. No way! God knows all and sees all. He’s holy. My Lord and Savior Jesus only did what He saw the Father doing and only spoke what His Heavenly Father told Him to speak. If He chose me, then He made no mistake, so who am I to say, “No, Jesus, you’re wrong for trying to live through me. You’ve got the wrong person. You have poor judgment”?🤦🏾‍♀️ Guess who needed to get over herself? Me! If the object of our faith is our own righteousness, own goodness, and own abilities, then yes we will fail and fail miserably! However, if our faith is in God, not partially but completely in God, then we can trust Him even when it involves Him choosing us. We can trust Him even when trusting Him involves being used as His vessel to draw others to Christ. We can operate as a lamp that King Jesus lit to expel darkness. (John 1:1-9, Matthew 5:14-16, John 8:12, Ephesians 5:8)

If you’re just starting to trust God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit, may I suggest that you do it one scripture verse at a time? With each scripture that you find yourself living as a testimony of God’s trustworthiness, your trust in Him will grow! Nothing is impossible to them that believe.

Sitting down to write this, I had a crazy fight with a bottle top. It was on so tightly that it made me question if manufacturers realized that humans would be opening it. With my bare hands…nothing. With a piece of cloth…nothing. With all my might…nothing, not even a hint of the slightest budge. It seemed like it would take the jaws of life to open it just to get a drink!

Then in humility I prayed, “Holy Spirit, I need You to open this bottle. I cannot do this in my own strength. Only you can do this.” I tried again with light to normal strength and it opened with ease. You may think that’s not a big deal, but I testify to you that the difference between the initial fight on my own and when I did it with God trusting in His ability not my own was like night and day.

What are you trying to do in your own strength? If you choose God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit as the object of your faith completely, not partially, then you might come to the realization of “The results don’t depend on me but on God. I must have faith in God and be obedient to Him.”

When Jesus said the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few (Luke 10:2), it’s like He was saying, “There’s much to be gained if you do the work.” What is the work, you ask? The work is sowing seeds. What is the seed? The Gospel of Christ Jesus is the seed. How is the seed spread? The seed is spread by sharing the Gospel with everyone near and far and wide. God knows how the seed will be multiplied. Just make yourself available to Him. Have faith in Him. Obey Him. The results are not up to you but God. Rest in that and allow Christ to live His life through you. When you do, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find God…in trusting Him.
